DESCRIPTION
"I photographed Christian both in his home and on his houseboat, where we sailed for a week down the The Nile River - the longest river in the world. I have vivid memories of the intense military convoys that led us from one place to another and of stopping in the quarries where they got the stones to build the pyramids.
The houseboat had no engine and floated naturally with the currents. Two tug boats were used to bring the boat back. Christian had friends onboard as well as the crew and so there wasn’t enough room for us all to sleep on the boat. The men slept in the tug boats and it was very cold at night but I didn’t mind sleeping in the open air, looking up at the stars, waking up to Muslim prayers 5am, and feeling the deep history all around me." - DU
